Meet October’s Featured Artist: Heather Taft

October 12, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Artist Heather Taft

Heather has been involved in art and has loved the outdoors her entire life. As a young child, she enjoyed drawing, but it wasn’t until college that she took her first watercolor class. Later, when her two children were in elementary school, she became aware that the basic skills of drawing and painting were lacking in the classroom. So, she volunteered as an art instructor and created step-by-step drawing and watercolor lessons. The following year she taught the first art related class for San Juan Unified’s Gifted and Talented Program. This led to after-school programs in other elementary schools, and expanded into art classes for parents and teachers, as well.

During this time Heather was also Coordinator for the S.J.U.S.D Art Docent Program. This volunteer-based art history program provided portfolios of art prints for parents to present to K-6 students in the classroom. She retired after 18 years to spend more time with her husband, of 48 years, to travel, hike, bike on their tandem, garden, and of course paint. Watercolor painting could now be revisited as a journey all its own and at a more enjoyable pace.

Heather Taft, a local watercolorist out of Fair Oaks. Original works, prints, and greeting cards available for sale in our tasting room!
