At Miraflores Winery, our passion is to craft balanced new world wines, and indulge the senses with gracious and welcoming surroundings.

Miraflores Winery was founded in 1998 by Dr. Victor Alvarez. The first vines of Syrah and Zinfandel were planted during that year and the first vintage was produced in 2003. Today, our 252-acre high elevation property, tucked away in the Pleasant Valley area of Placerville, runs on solar energy, and is covered with 38 planted acres of 16 different grape varietals. Renowned original winemaker, Marco Cappelli, began his career in Napa Valley, working with America’s most influential winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, and has been creating our wine from the very beginning. Marco brings his old-world knowledge from extensive wine making experience in France and Italy to the table, while integrating unique and modern wine making styles. Marco, alongside his protégé and our current winemaker, Fernando Abarca, continue to craft wines that have received numerous awards and accolades throughout the years, including 70+ wines that have received 90+points from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. Miraflores is proud to have been voted one of El Dorado’s Best Wineries for 9 consecutive years from 2015-2024.

Our tasting room operated out of the winery building on the property until 2010, when the tasting room construction was fully completed. Victor’s goal was to create a space of old world Mediterranean blended with the beauty of California’s gold country, a space to allow time to slow down and relax the mind. He has collected pieces from his travels all over the world to accentuate the elegance of the winery, from wooden beams, salvaged from the Oakland Ferry Building torn down in 1936, to the 200 year old stone flooring from the Mediterranean basin and 16^th century fireplace.
