Our experienced cellar production staff is proud to offer 60 years of winemaking experience between them, and includes Winemaker, Fernando Abarca, Consulting Winemaker, Marco Cappelli, Production Manager, Savannah Lemons, and Production Associate, Bradley Leach.
Fernando Abarca has been working solely at Miraflores since 2006 and under Marco Cappelli’s tutelage, has blossomed into an incredible winemaker who consistently keeps the elegant style and high quality that Miraflores has always been known for. He has consulted and worked with over 40 wineries, grape growers, and winemakers in the El Dorado, Fair Play, Amador, Calaveras, Clarksburg, and San Francisco areas. Fernando is diverse as he is always creative in winemaking style but always ensures full terroir expression.
Marco Cappelli has been an influential winemaker, working in the industry for over four decades. He has a wide array of experience, ranging from work in Sauternes, Tuscany, Chianti Classico, south Australia, and Napa. While in Napa, he became the winemaker at Swanson Winery, from 1987-2003, and worked with the great Andre Tchelistcheff, known as “America’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker.” He then moved to the Fair Play AVA and became Miraflores Winery’s original winemaker in 2003, before he passed the torch to his protégé, Fernando Abarca in 2018.
Savannah Lemons has been with Miraflores Winery since 2014 and recently took over the role as cellar manager. She has studied at the International Culinary Center, where she became a Level 1 Sommelier. Her incredible palate along with our winemakers’ experience, provides our clients with the assurance that their wine will be handled with the utmost care and highest standard of quality. She coordinates directly with our custom crush clients and ensures the process is seamless and easy to navigate.
Bradley Leach has had a variety of experience in the wine industry, most of which heavily involves Miraflores. He worked for several years in the Miraflores tasting room and then moved on to become the wine buyer at a natural foods store in South Lake Tahoe. Winemaking has recently sparked Brad’s interest and is now Fernando’s right hand associate in the cellar.
